What is Stitch of Prayer…Heart of Care? Stitch of Prayer…Heart of Care is a prayer ministry that combines the gift of a hand-tied quilt with the gift of prayer for someone in need. Each knot tied into the quilt represents a specific prayer for the person who receives the quilt. We meet every Monday at 9am to 3pm in Room 217, above the church foyer.
So how does it work? First, a person (a quilt “sponsor”) recognizes the need for prayer in someone’s life (the “recipient”), makes sure that the recipient would welcome prayer, and then requests a quilt from the church. Once the formal request is made, construction begins. Each member of the team has a role to play in the assembly process and when the quilt is completed, floss ties are placed in each square. The quilt is completed when the team prays for the recipient and has tied each knot with a prayer said for that person’s special needs. The quilts are a statement of our faith, a testimony to our strong belief in God and in the ultimate power of prayer.
How can I get involved? We can always use volunteers. God is blessing so many people through this ministry. If you think God is calling you to be part of this ministry, we would love to have you. You do not need to be experienced in quilting to be part of this ministry. Just call, and we’ll tell you how you can join to make a difference in the lives of others. If sewing is not “your thing,” you can help in other ways. The most important way to help, however, is to get involved in praying for the people in need. When you see a prayer quilt at church, please take a moment to tie a knot and pray for that person.
Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way
you will fulfill the law of Christ.
