⁸Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. ⁹And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. ¹⁰Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. ¹¹For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. ¹²And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."

    ¹³And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
       ¹⁴"Glory to God in the highest,
       And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

    ¹⁵So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, "Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us." ¹⁶And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. ¹⁷Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. ¹⁸And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. ¹⁹But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. ²⁰Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them. "

I. The night that the angels spoke (not sang)

A. One angel comes and then a multitude of heavenly host

B. What is an angel and what are their purposes (two)?

C. When was the first mention of angels and what were they doing?

D. Why are angels invisible (for the most part)?

E. Where are the two instances that angels sang in the Bible?

F. Why are these the only two places (or times) that the angels sang?

II. The night the shepherds saw, heard and did

A. The were the first to see

B. The first to hear

C. They were the first to do something about seeing them

III. The night the world slept

A. Has the message of Jesus touched you so much that you can't contain yourself and you MUST share it? Why not?

B. The shepherds were attending the sheep that were to be sacrificed in the temple and they left to check out the lamb that would be slain for the sin of the world

C. Why didn't the world go out and glorify and praise God

1. They were so busy with the Passover season

2. They had an ideal of what they thought the Messiah was to be

APPLICATION:

1. Personally "check out" Jesus

2. Glorify and praise God for Jesus

3. Give God the best of your time and your life because He gave you His best in His Son Jesus.
