Jeremiah 17

INTRODUCTION

A. Sin Stinks. The people of Judah were pointing out problems in the life of the prophet and yet they were stinking of their own sin. The sin of Judah was indelible.

B. Whenever we sin we leave some sort of record of it... inwardly, outwardly and influentially.

C. Jerimiah chapter 17 is a tour of the heart.

• In Jerimiah 17:3-4 God refers to Jerusalem as his 'mountain in the field'. Does this mean that the land of Israel belongs to God? Who did God give his land to?

• Read Psalm 125:1-2. Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, who does the Lord surround?

• What does Jerimiah 17:5 tell us about being blessed vs. cursed?

• Which would you rather be, blessed or cursed?Do you put your trust in man, or in your own strength?

• Read Psalm 1. What does it say about the blessed man?

• What does Proverbs 3:4-5 tell us we should do? To trust in the Lord is to be blessed. Can you afford not to be blessed in the Lord?

• Read Jerimiah 17:9 What does God say about our hearts? Do you take offense to this scripture?

• What does Romans 3:10 say about how God sees us?

• Jerimiah 17:10 I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.

• Do you think you are good enough for God? According to Jerimiah 17:10 what does God know about us?

• What does Jerimiah pray for in verses 14 - 18?

• What does Jerimiah refer to himself as in verse 16? Why is this significant?

• What did the Lord tell Jerimiah to do in verse 19? Who traveled in and out of the gate?

• What did the Lord tell Jerimiah to say at the gate (verse 20-22)? Why?

• What would happen if the people did not honor God (verse 27)?

• Read 2 Chronicles 36. Why were the walls of Jerusalem burned and the house of God burned?

APPLICATION:

1. Is your name written in the Lambs Book of Life? Is it written in heaven?

2. Let's remember that the land belongs to the Lord, our homes belong to Him and all that we have belongs to Him.

MEMORY VERSE - Jeremiah 17:7-8

7"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. 8For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.
