INTRODUCTION:

A. The message has gone out. Have you been listening? It is much like Jeremiah talking to a nation that did not want to hear.

B. Jeremiah even wanted to quit at times since no one was listening to him.

C. Has God gotten a hold of your attention?

D. The Word of the Lord was in Jeremiah's heart, burning like a fire. Can you say the same about your heart and desires?

E. Are you fearless and bold while touching the feelings of people as Jeremiah did? (Read Jeremiah 9)

F. Are you tender but tough in the face of a difficult message as was Jeremiah? Do you weep over the sins of the nation and those around you?

G. What would you do if you had to preside over the funeral of our nation?

H. Why would Jesus' ministry remind those around him of Jeremiah? When Jesus stood over Jerusalem and sobbed convulsively over it

I. Chapter 1 - The Background

A. Location - 3 miles north of Jerusalem in a Levitical enclave

B. When he was born Mannaseh was on the throne who was the most wicked king ever up to that time

C. Mannaseh died and Amon came to the throne. He was assassinated and Josiah came to the throne and the Word of the Lord came to him in the 13th year of his reign at 8 years old!

D. Mannaseh was 12 when he came to power. When Josiah came to the throne he had Godly counselors (Hilkiah)

E. Hilkiah might have been Jeremiah's father. Hilkiah found the copy of the Law, read it in the temple and it brought revivial & renewal in the land. Josiah broke down the high places and false worship.

F. Josiah would have been 21 years old at this time and Jeremiah was 20-25. Political and Spiritual leaders are both in their 20's!

G. Jeremiah ministered until 586BC when Jerusalem was taken captive by the Babylonians and King Nebuchhannezer. He ministered under 5 kings until he was 65 years old.

H. "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations." "

1. We are not here by accident.

2. No matter what our culture says, the Bible plainly states that at conception, human life begins.

3. God has a plan for our lives.

K. Does God have to pull down, root out and destroy in your life before He can build?

L. We will see 21 different illustrations of judgment in Jeremiah

1. Sached - to wake up (almond tree) the first to blossom or awaken in Israel. The awakening tree. God was to send a wake up call to Israel to judgment.

2. Cauldron boiling pot - God pouring forth His judgment. 3 times Nebuchadennezer surrounded the Jerusalem and in 586 BC capture it.

M. Whatever God calls you to do, He will give you the tools to do it.

N. I am with you says the Lord to Deliver you

II. Chapter 2 - The message

A. God is going to review a list of Jerusalem has backslidden

B. God is remembering and asking them to remember the spring time of their live together when they were in the desert totally dependent on God, trusting Him to provide for all things.

C. God says that He misses that. Does God miss this in your life?

D. Describe the illustration of a cistern used here and it's implication.

E. Have you gone after other loves and forsaken God?

APPLICATION:

A. Do you know God's plan for your life?

B. What areas of your life have you forsaken your first love?

C. Spend time with God and ask Him to forgive you and to repent.
